Es Baluard Museum
Es Baluard Museum of Modern & Contemporary Art, nestled in Palma, Mallorca, is a unique cultural gem. Opened in 2004, this museum, housed in the historic 16th-century Baluard de Sant Pere, showcases a remarkable blend of Balearic and Mediterranean art from the 20th and 21st centuries.
Architectural Splendor Meets Artistic Diversity
The museum’s architecture, a thoughtful blend of historical and contemporary designs, covers 5,027 square meters with 2,500 dedicated to exhibitions.
It features works by renowned artists like Picasso, Miro, and Magritte, alongside contemporary figures, emphasizing artists linked to the Balearics.
Engaging Spaces for Art and Events
'The Aljub', a repurposed 17th-century cistern, stands out as a versatile space for installations and events.
The outdoor terraces offer panoramic views of the Bay of Palma, doubling as additional exhibition areas. The views from up here are absolutely stunning and make for some great vacation photos!
Accessible Cultural Hub
Es Baluard is strategically located near key landmarks and Palma's main shopping area.
Despite the absence of foreign language texts or audio guides, its dynamic exhibitions, affordable tickets, and free admission days on Fridays make it an accessible art haven.
A Testament to Public-Private Collaboration
Jointly funded by the Mallorcan counsel, the Balearic government, and Palma's town hall, the museum is a successful example of a public-private partnership in cultural promotion.
Opening hours
Es Baluard constantly reinvents its offering, with collections being refreshed every three months. This dynamic approach keeps the museum at the forefront of contemporary art, continually offering new experiences to its visitors.
The museum is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 to 20:00, and on Sundays from 10:00 to 15:00, with special opening hours and free admission days throughout the year.
On Mondays, the museum is closed.

Customer Reviews
When we visited it had exhibitions of 3 modern artists - very contemporary ( Susy Gomez, Jorge Eduardo Eilson, Nauzet Mayor). Adult ticket €6. We spent about 1 1/2 hours here. Great views across sea and port from its open roof top floor. In the Santa Catalina area it's worth exploring this area - great park next door ( Sa Feixina). Visting in March the gallery wasn't busy or crowded.
A huge building with lots of wasted space but, critically on a hot day, very good air conditioning! Visit on a Friday and you only have to make a small charity contribution. Pleased we did as the exhibits were not worth the full fee. Very pretentious modern art which is quite thin in content. No cafe. Roof terrace gives you some great views of Palma from high up.
A good walk around the museum, like the concrete design. Great roof terrace with views of the city and good outside sculptural works.
